Anita Loos



Anita Loos (April 26, 1888 - August 18, 1981) as an American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and actress best known for her 1925 comic novel Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and her 1951 Broadway adaptation of Colette’s novel Gigi. She was born in Mount Shasta, California and raised in San Francisco and San Diego. She started writing at age 6 and acting at age 9, becoming the family's breadwinner. Her theater began showing one-reel films after performances in 1911, which inspired Anita to write scripts; by 1915 she had written 105 scripts, all but four of which were produced. In 1915 she joined D.W. Griffith’s Triangle Film Corporation. When Griffith started making longer films, she collaborated with John Emerson on five films featuring Douglas Fairbanks, which helped make him a star and brought her much publicity.
